Tropical Realty held its 6th annual Charity Golf Tournament on May 1st for Sturge Weber Syndrome.
Sturge Weber Syndrome is an over abundance of capillaries located in a portion of the brain. Over time these capillaries calcify and cause learning disabilities, seizures, strokes and potentially death. The Syndrome is an “orphan” disease which basically means one which does not attract very much public attention, research, or funding, typically because it is extremely rare and poorly publicized. The amount of children affected is so small neither the federal government nor the drug companies spend money working towards a cure. Mitch Ribak, Managing Director of Tropical Realty said: “It’s a disease that is very close to my family as my four year old granddaughter, Lola, was diagnosed with the disease six months after birth.” This year, Tropical Realty was able to increase their donation from $13,000 to approximately $15,000. In a tough economy they managed to sell out with 140 players along with 39 hole sponsors and a host of other sponsors between $250 and $750. Mr. Ribak said: “We were unable to secure any of our three major sponsors this year but the response from our hole sponsors as well as other sponsors such as, food, par three, long drive, putting green and driving range sponsors has been incredible. My family is overwhelmed with the love and support we receive each year from our community for this worthy cause.” Debbie Sanders, Tropical Realty’s golf tournament chairperson, for the past six years said: “The good news is that we surpassed our goal of $13,000, the amount we had raised last year, and the more of these we continue to do, the better we will become. It’s a lot of work for everyone in our office, especially since we are all very busy with our Real Estate business. However, when the tournament is over and we go home to reflect, it all becomes worthwhile knowing that we are helping children, like Lola, fight this devastating disease.”

Thank you from Lola and all of us at Tropical Realty!
